cowboys and indians

by laura beth

Last night we went to Heather Kelly's birthday crash party (happy 30 Heathy!). Rachel Crain's (a mutual friend from CCBC days) brother's birthday falls around the same time, and Heather and her friends often crash his party at Rachel's house. This year the theme was cowboys and indians. Feathers & fringe, boots & hats, dancing, drunkenness, and friends. As much as we love to dress up, we didn't have time to find costumes. However, the other guests more than made up for our shortcomings. We met a few new people there (a radical fairy couch-surfer and a guy named...mike?), had a few drinks, and moseyed on home early. A fun night indeed!

happy birthday Chris, you Twihard!

by laura beth

Chris Rice turned 31 yesterday. Matt, Chris, Kenny, Heather, Mike, Andy, and I celebrated by going out for sushi. I'm only sorry I didn't get Matt and Andy in the photos.Chris is a huge fan of Twilight. She's read the books, seen the movie at least 4 times, and made 2 incredible Twilight shirts. Her co-workers at Roxy threw her a themed party, complete with posters of Edward and Bella, only with Chris' face photoshopped over Bella's. So Chris got tons of Twilight loot, which inspired me to finally start reading the book (she lent me her brand new hardback copy!). Since I've been sick and didn't fall asleep until 4:30 this morning, I spent all day in bed today and have almost finished reading it. My opinions, although insignificant because I hardly qualify as an expert, nor am I an avid reader: I love vampires. The story concept is great. The story itself is alright. Stephanie Meyer spends too many words describing setting and I've found myself bored more than once. However, she totally nails the archetypical sweep-me-off-of-my-feet-knight-in-shining-armor-my-heart-skips-a-beat-when-I-see-you-or-hear-your-name-mentioned romantic hero. I must admit I've gotten butterflies at a couple points in the book. I hope to able to see the movie with Chris before it's left theaters entirely. When tell my 13 year old niece, Melanie that I've read the book, maybe we can gush about it together...

By the way, I think the best gift Chris received was from Matt. An American Idol card ("The votes are in...You're awesome!") and Dirty Dancing...........the Official Dance Workout DVD. At first thought was just the regular movie DVD, and I was quite taken aback when I realized what it actually was.

As Kenny and I walked out to the car at 3 am, he started singing "It's Raining Men" and then said, "Why is that even a song?" Hoorah!

Friday the 13th

by laura beth

We celebrated Jason's big day at Matt and Chris Rice's house, along with Heather Even and Mike Merryman. Chris made a red velvet cake, and we watched Friday the 13th II. It was a great night!
